Flash your DS
Because the DSerial goes into the DS slot you will have to Flash your DS with modified firmware to be able to run homebrew code and use DSerial at the same time. If you don't know how to flas your DS I suggest you read this guide and watch this video.
DS Firmware is available for download here:
FlashMe V7
FlashMe V7 Lite (for DS Lite)
After flashing your DS you are ready to get some homebrew code running while DSerial is in your DS.
Insert DSerial
DSerial fits real smooth into the DS Slot 1. It almost feels like it goes in too smooth and not making good electrical contact. The device has no plastic cover and feels abit fragile while inserted in the DS slot.
As you can see below DSerial sticks out a bit. The text "DSerial" is just readable and there is enough space to reach the USB, IO and UART connections.
Powering ON the DS will make LED1 light up:
Testing DSerial
Download DSeTest.nds here and copy it to your flash-, SD- or CF-card. Then put the card into your DS and run DSeTest.nds. If DSerial is correctly inserted you should see something similar to the most left image below. In case DSerial is not detected you should see what is shown in the image to the right.
