Description
I have had many requests for this circuit. It was a very popular unit years ago. The basic idea of the project is to make different colored bulbs light at different frequencies of music. The circuit connects to the speaker outputs of your stereo or to the back of your speaker. The music passes through the transformer and the volume level is adjusted by the 5k ohm pot. Each light bulb is turn on by a different frequency of sound based on the resistor & capacitor combination in the gate circuit of the SCR. If the resistors R1, R2, or R3 are changed, the frequency of sound that will trigger the SCR will change. The isolation transformer is for protection.

Nice circuit .
I have built several 3 channel color organs but now ive taken this basic curcuit and added a few things ,What I have done is added 3 sub channels to each channel so your lowhas the basic low then sub channel 1,2,3 and the same for the mid and high ,the hardest thing was figureing out the resister value and the value of the Capacitors. Another problem isyou cant use the standard 10K Pots there not sensetive enough so I used a Bourns 3295 10k pot.alot better controll .The SCR i used are 400 volt at 4 amp. I built 2 of these and hooked them up to lights that i put on my house and put a speaker out in the yard and won a contest for the best decorated house ,IT Rocked .
The Sheriffs department even liked it after the old witch down the street called them .
Have a merry Xmas
